Pruning Begins!

Day 26. After the burnt Basil incedent I pulled out the Tending & Harvesting Guide booklet and proceeded to read how to prune the herbs. Uh Oh I almost forgot, let me back up a bit to a couple of days ago.

I had sent an email to Aerogarden support about the two herbs that were not growing and they had replied quickly telling me to send them my address and they would replace the 2 seed pods. I was a bit concerned about planting new pods in amongst the original ones that were already grwoing fast. They told me I didn’t need to worry about the initial Blue Nutrient tablets that I had used when setting up the system and that the water would contain all the nutrients to grow these new plants.

They also said to make sure all plants were trimmed back so the Light Hood could remain in the lowest possition to give the new plants enough light to grow. So I’ve pruned both Basil plants now and I’m going to cut some of the Chives later today and try them in a salad, ( Although there doesn’t seem a lot of chives yet they are tall so need cutting )

Here are some photo’s after pruning the Basil plants.

After cutting off the burnt leaf I decided the Italian Basil was still too close to the light bulbs so I cut some more off.

As you can see from the phot above, the Chives are next inline for a trim.
