What Happens When You Don’t Prune Your Basil!

Ok it’s the 26th day after starting this Aerogarden System and allthough I’ve been keeping a close eye on everything ( or so I thought lol ) I noticed this morning that the Italian Basil had shot up so high seemingly overnight that the top leaf was touching the Lamp. Not good at all as you can see in the photo below.

Above you can clearly see the leaf is burnt which just goes as a warning to all that you must make sure you prune your plants before they reach the light bulbs. You may think this is obvious but depending on your seeating level and eye level to the Aerogarden it’s not as obvious at first glance just exactly how low down the light bulbs are. The Aerogarden hood can be  decieving, so make sure you follow the pruning steps in the “Tending Your Garden” booklet that came with your Seed Kit.

You should follow the main stem of your Basil plant up to the 3rd set of leaves and snip off the main stem. Anything you snip off is edible so enjoy your first taste of fresh Basil ;o)
